The Westchester Association for the Education of Young Children wants to make you aware of the scholarship opportunities available through WAEYC and the requirements for application. Part of our mission, as an early childhood organization is to support continuing growth and development of staff in programs.

The Cate Riley October Conference Scholarship

Since many programs are experiencing serious cutbacks in funding, WAEYC is making available funds to send staff members to the October Conference. Presenters, who donate their stipends, fund this scholarship. We can think of no better way to honor Cate Riley’s memory than to continue to support professional development in the field she so loved. Heads of programs or treasurers should send a letter requesting aid for their staff to the conference chair. This letter should state reasons for the request. It should also contain the names of the staff for whom funds are requested and state their positions at the center.

The Linda Lattimer Professional Improvement Award
The Linda Lattimer scholarships were established to honor the memory of Linda Fraser Lattimer who was the founding director of the Purchase College Children’s Center. The award has as its goal making professional education in the field of early childhood more readily available to those WAEYC members currently working actively in Early Childhood Education.

Early childhood teachers, assistants, aides and directors who are WAEYC members and currently employed in Westchester County preschool centers or in school grades K through 3, and are enrolled in college programs to advance their professional skills, are invited to apply for WAEYC tuition scholarship awards. Applications may be made by family day care providers, staff in day care, Head Start and Pre K centers, as well as those employed in public and private school grades K through 3.

Grants are a one time award given as financial assistance for tuition costs for full or part time study in early childhood education at the undergraduate or graduate level in an accredited college. Grants will be awarded to students enrolled in programs leading to CDA, Child Care Certification, AA, BA/BS, MA/MS, and EdD/PhD credentials.
